Ideas for a Healthy Spring

springWhile spring is busy renewing the world around you, take the opportunity to renew yourself. Spring is a great opportunity to renew, reinvent and recharge yourself and the way you live your life, so take a chance this spring by making a few changes.

Go Outside More

Going outside is great for your health, both physically and mentally, but people don’t take advantage of the beauty of nature as much as they should. Take this opportunity to get active and get outside. Visit parks in your area or wildlife preserves, find an outdoor class through your local parks and recreation department. Sign up for an adult sporting league just for fun and explore the farms in your area. Heck, you could even go fly a kite!

Grow Your Own Food

If you don’t think you have a green thumb, create one! If you’re new to gardening and growing your own food all you have to do is start slowly. Create a modestly sized garden and plant things that grow easily without a lot of maintenance. You can try:

  • Cucumbers
  • Spinach
  • Peppers
  • Different kinds of lettuce
  • Bush beans
  • Carrots

If you don’t have a yard large enough for a garden, you can try container gardening or find a community garden to work in.

Bring the Outdoors In

The temperatures outside in spring tend to be mild, so take advantage of them and turn off the heat or air conditioning and throw those windows open. It will help remove some of the stuffiness that has built up all winter long. Try adding a few houseplants to your home as well. There are several kinds of plants that can improve the air quality of your home, including:

  • Spiders plants
  • Aloe
  • Ficus
  • Philodendron
  • English ivy
  • Peperomia

These plants are hardy too, so they’re not easy to kill!

Reinvest in Yourself

Make a new commitment to focus on your own needs, both physically and emotionally. Schedule time to really focus on yourself and do something nice. Take yourself to a movie or out to dinner, get a manicure or massage, take that yoga class you’ve been looking at. Make yourself a priority!

Spring breathes new life into the world, so follow its lead to breathe new life into your life! After being shut inside all winter, there’s no time like the spring to get out and discover new things about the world and about you at the same time.
